****4.5 ‘Lessons In Survival’ STARS****
How in the hell does Keri Lake do it? I deranged psychopath. A broken addict. And a love story so wrong that it makes you question your sanity for thinking it’s…oh, so riiiight.
“I’ve been living in a world of corruption, where justice is nothing more than a bullshit fairytale.”
Pacing is on point as we pick up where we left off in Episode 2; Rip and Dylan’s ever changing relationship is given much more depth and layers. The puzzle pieces are all starting to come together with peeks into Dylan’s nightmares and Rip’s conditioning. Less gore and more layering of the story and twists are the focus of this installment but not to the detriment of the story. The tension is ramped up, the sex hotter than ever and this dark, dirty sinfully twisted tale has got me all tangled up.
“I guess our crazy lines up just right.”
The relatability factor is amplified by Rip’s actions. He might be a lunatic but there’s a purpose behind each of his actions – hurtful or not. Dylan’s struggle with the reality of her feelings for Rip versus her interpretation of Rip’s actions is going to get her into trouble – the fun kind and the not so fun kind. There’s a piece of the puzzle dangling in the storyline here – if you pay close attention (it’s not spelled out for the reader) you’ll have an ‘ah-ha’ moment. As they battle each other and navigate a new reality something’s gotta give – and this time it might be Dylan.
“I want to touch his scars, to feel them beneath my fingertips that travel his hot skin. I want to dig my fingertips into those broad shoulders that taper down to his muscled thighs, while his powerful body rocks into mine. I want to hear my name as a whisper from those lips.”
We’re left with a huge cliffhanger in preparation for what I am sure is going to be an epic conclusion and I cannot wait. Although I’ve figured out a few of the puzzle pieces I’m anxiously awaiting the final moves in this mind fuck of love and vengeance Keri Lake style.
“Life is about survival, Dylan. We can’t all be saints.”
