****4.5 ‘The Lumbersexual & His Lady’ STARS****
Nothing will put what’s important in life into perspective like a life threatening situation. Taking Fiona Davenport’s new Sex, Vows and Babies series and spinning it in an entirely unexpected direction, K. Webster takes us on a harrowing journey of fear, anger and ultimately acceptance and love. Hold onto your hats folks, and keep your arms in the car, this is one wild ride…
“This show was supposed to be exactly that. A show. Not this. Not him wanting to know me. Not real.”
Taylor Cunningham may be the talk show ‘hostess with the mostess’ but underneath her cold, polished appearance hides a woman longing for love, acceptance and belonging. She’d never guess she’d find those things in a man she married for ratings. But she did, right before the USA implodes in a massive attack right before her very eyes. Now what?
“Harley Harrison is a mess. A hot mess. And I’m not.”
Reeling from his fiancée’s betrayal Harley Harrison’s rebound is marriage – TV style. There’s only one problem. The cool, composed, plastic doll sets him on fire – and feels like forever. As things become more real than rebound Harley sees beneath the façade to the real woman and his marriage becomes all too real. Before he knows it Harley’s fighting two battles: one for Taylor’s heart and one for their very survival in a new and dangerous landscape as anarchy envelops the United States.
“For some strange reason, I want him to see the real me. Not the plastic version I’d created for the world. Just me.”
What a fun, sexy and completely different story. I loved watching Harley, the gruff lumbersexual survivalist and Taylor, the buttoned-up cold-fish (with a dash of snarky) find each other and fall in love – against a semi-apocalyptic adventure. Harley’s devotion, not only to cracking Taylor’s hard shell, but also to keep them alive to see their happily ever after was clearly demonstrated in his affection and attention (not to mention the caveman possessiveness). Taylor’s got some issues that take time to topple (and I may have wanted to slap her a time or two) but once she realized the treasure she has in Harley her heart melts (mine too)…as well as another body part (wink wink). It may have taken an epic situation to make these two see the possibilities but once they do there’s no turning back – they’re in it to win it – their future depends on it. I appreciated that although an extremely dangerous and stressful situation threw them together to depend on each other at no time did I feel that that was where their feelings stemmed from. Emotionally the building blocks for their love already existed prior. Their epic adventure may have encouraged feelings to blossom faster, but that was all it did…the rest was all Harley and Taylor.
“There’s something worth fighting for in there – I just have to dig a little harder to get her out.”
Part suspenseful thriller mixed in with a survivalist adventure, I loved this surprising take on love in the wild. Add in a little smoking hot sex some witty banter and a swoony epilogue and I was hooked. If you’re looking for a short, sexy, thrill ride to read look no further. Definitely recommended.
“As long as we’re together, it’ll be better than okay. We finally found each other in this big bad world and I’ll be damned if I ever let a thing pull us apart.”
